Standard Itinerary:
DAY 1
06:00hrs
Pick up from Kota Kinabalu Hotel & transfer to Kota Kinabalu International Airport for Sandakan flight MH2042 ETD@07:00hrs or AK6092 ETD@07:05hrs.
ETA in Sandakan Airport @07:40/07:50hrs. Meet & greet by driver, transfer to Sabah Park Jetty.
Depart from Sabah Park Jetty for Selingan Island at 09:30hrs by speedboat. Arriving at Selingan Island around 10:30hrs.
Obtain room key from Reception Counter at the Visitor's Centre and check into chalet.
Lunch is served in The Cafeteria at 12:30hrs.
Video will be played at 19:00hrs, followed by dinner at 19:30hrs.
(Please be at the cafeteria before 19:00hrs).
Please stay at the cafeteria until the announcement from the Park Ranger regarding the sighting of mother turtle coming ashore to lay eggs. Follow the Park Ranger to the nesting side and witness the egg laying process, collection of eggs and tagging of the mother turtle.
Next is to witness the planting of turtle eggs in the hatchery.
The last program of the night of the night is to watch the baby turtles being released to the sea for the first time. Retire for the night.
DAY 2
Breakfasts will be served at 06:30hrs on Day 2 in the Cafeteria. Please surrender your key to the Reception Counter.
Depart from Selingan Island at 07:00hrs, ETA at Sabah park Jetty at 08:00hrs.
Meet & Greet by Driver cum Tour Guide, transfer to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center. At this world renowned center, come face to face with human’s closest relative, the Orang Utans. Orang Utans share 97% of the same DNA as humans. The Orang Utans feeding time is at 1000 hrs. Also experience a walk in the tropical lowland dipterocarp forest.
While Orangutan rehabilitation is still the primary goal at Sepilok, present aims include public education on conservation, research and assistance to other endangered species such as captive breeding of the rare and endangered rhinoceros.
At 1100hrs, depart Sepilok to the Sandakan Memorial Park. Located within the suburb of Taman Rimba, the site of a notorious WWII prisoner-of-war camp is about 11km outside of Sandakan.
The park, which includes a small museum, is a memorial to the thousands of Australian and British who lost their lives during the Japanese occupation. The rusting remains of an excavator, a generator and a boiler lie in their original positions, near steps leading up to a small Commemorative Pavilion.
Proceed to the English Tea House for lunch.
The English Tea House is superbly situated within the grounds of the historic Agnes Keith House Museum and is housed in a meticulously renovated colonial house surrounded by 1.5 acres of perfectly manicured lawns. With enveloping greenery and cool breezes, you can enjoy the spectacular views of the town and Sandakan Bay as you relax for your lunch in the garden.
Pick up & transfer to Kota Kinabalu Hotel upon arrival (ETA:14:35hrs/15:10hrs).
